Another clueless lawmaker targets social networking

The Arlington Heights Daily Herald may think his conservatism is "the thoughtful, common-sense brand," but his legislation suggests Illinois state Sen. Matt Murphy is a clueless demogogue playing an ignorant crowd. Why am I saying this? Take a look at SB1682, which would require that schools and libraries "must prohibit access to social networking websites." The proposed amendment, introduced by Murphy, would open the door to every tax-hating wingnut and religious kook to harass public schools and libraries, abusing the courts at will. Notice how "computer" is carefully defined but "social networking websites" is left to the overheated imagination. Yeah, we got trouble here in River City.
