About me

I was born into the newspaper business. Now I try to find ways to keep it healthy in a world where the economic and journalistic rules are being rapidly rewritten.

I'm Vice President of Audience for the Savannah Morning News operating unit of Morris Publishing Group. Previously I held corporate roles for Morris in Augusta, Ga., executive editor of Cox Interactive in Atlanta, and editor of Star Tribune Online/startribune.com in Minneapolis. Before moving to the digital world in 1994, I worked in print in Minnesota, Missouri and Illinois.

Anything I write on this website is my personal opinion. Not everyone at work agrees with everything I say.

I'm available for limited public speaking and consulting engagements. Over the last few years I've been a featured speaker in the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Russia and China, as well as throughout the United States.
