It's official: House declares war on social networking

Our nannies in the House of Representatives officially declared war on social networking yesterday, overwhelmingly passing a law that would prohibit public schools and libraries from allowing anyone not an adult to use "chat rooms" and "social networking" sites. The definition is so broad that most of the Internet could be blocked.

'War' backfires; Myspace emerges as No. 1 website

It's often said there's no such thing as bad publicity. Now it appears that the war on social networking and the anti-Myspace coverage in the mass media have backfired. Metrics vendor Hitwise is reporting that Myspace.com has climbed to the No. 1 position among U.S. Internet users with a stunning surge in traffic from May to July.

FZ remixes Web 2.0 ideas into a sports metasite

This afternoon at Morris DigitalWorks, where I do my day job, we're launching a Web 2.0 social filter metasite about pro and collegiate sports. I alluded to this project last week.

FanaticZone.com is a remix of some current cutting-edge ideas combined with a niche topical focus. You'll recognize some of the ideas from Newsvine, Digg, Beta.netscape.com, and from various RSS readers and aggregators.

Raising the moss curtain on a participative website

Awhile back I mentioned a project that we had in the works. The curtain has been lifted, partially, with the "preview" launch at new.savannahnow.com of an all-new community website associated with the Savannah Morning News. In a matter of weeks, the site will be completed and will replace www.savannahnow.com.
